We are thrilled to announce our company received a prestigious award this month from the National Association of Landscape Professionals at the 2023 Awards of Excellence in Dallas, Texas! Garden Gate Landscaping, a division of GreenSweep LLC, has been awarded a Gold Award in the Residential Design/Build Category for our project, “Seeking Respite in a Ravine Garden.”
Seeking Respite in a Ravine Garden
Our project involved an exciting and challenging design/build backyard renovation in northwest Washington, DC. Inspired by their extensive travel and time living abroad, the client desired a one-of-a-kind space where they could find relaxation in the city as well as take in the beauty of several meaningful garden sculptures they have collected. We utilized the entire space in a variety of ways to create private areas to take a hiatus, a pool and accompanying lounge area, and a dining space, but also a garden grand enough for entertaining. By creating an inviting and luxurious transformation, the clients can enjoy a relaxing space inspired by other locales without the hassle of travel.
This project boasts a beautiful pool backed by a travertine privacy wall draped in Parthenocissus tricuspidata ‘Fenway Park’ and accompanying patio have easy access from the house, but the intricacies of design really start to show as you walk down the staircase and head to the ravine garden. The dining patio is both a beautiful and functional space that opens to the tunnel trellis garden showcasing a magnificent sculpture. The custom ironwork is swathed with Wisteria frutescens ‘Amethyst Falls’ to add color and soften the space. To create more opportunities to consider the sculpture and take in the natural setting, a mid-level seating area was added with built-in benches. Further down, to maximize the usable space of the property, the lower ravine garden really starts to form. Woodland reforestation with white birch trees and a natural trail leads downhill to another seating area. A stream was installed creating more dimension and texture and bringing in the calming sounds of water.
Our team knew this property would be a challenge due to the steep grade and all the landscape and hardscape materials that would need to be transported into the space. It was crucial to think about the various phases of execution of this project, including future timelines when our ability to utilize heavy equipment would not be possible. We are proud of the teamwork and quality work showcased in this award-winning project.
2023 Awards of Excellence Ceremony
Our team was pleased to attend the NALP Awards of Excellence Celebration this year in Dallas. Each year, NALP Awards of Excellence recognizes exceptional commercial and residential lawn care and landscape installation, maintenance, and design projects from around the nation. This year 194 awards were bestowed to 31 companies for their outstanding work, with only 54 Gold Awards across all categories. We are proud to be included in such impressive company.
Owner, Kyle Narsavage was in Dallas, TX attending the NALP ELEVATE conference and was honored to accept the award. He had this to say, “I’m extremely proud of our team pulling together and producing such a great project for our client. Our design team created an exceptional concept to match the client’s vision and our talented production team executed it flawlessly. All around it was a team effort and totally encapsulates the quality work we produce at GreenSweep and Garden Gate.”
